The new BETASEAL* Uni-wipe system from Dow Automotive helps reduce time and resources required for the glass bonding process while providing performance advantages. Now commercially available for automotive and commercial vehicle applications, the Uni-wipe system utilizes existing equipment and is designed to facilitate OEM (original equipment manufacturer) installation of windshields, backlites, sunroofs and quarter glasses.

Featuring new adhesive chemistry and technology, the Uni-wipe system can be robotically or manually applied as a single clear wipe on the glass followed by the application of a specially formulated adhesive. The adhesive is designed to bond to a wide range of commercially available clearcoat technologies without the use of body flange primer, and is UV-resistant, thereby eliminating the need for glass blackout primer on typical ceramic enamel coatings. The short flash time of the clear wipe and the reduction in priming steps, provides up to 75 percent reduction in glass preparation cycle time. This also reduces in-plant volatile organic chemicals (VOCs) by up to 53 percent, eases the film build requirement of current blackout primer application, and helps eliminate waste from the assembly process.

In addition, the application of the clear wipe is detectable during the glass installation process as a unique fluorescing agent has been added to the wipe. This ensures quality as illumination with a specific light source will indicate a continuous application of the wipe around the glass so manufacturers can be sure that proper techniques are used.
