Employees of The Dow Chemical Company and former President Jimmy Carter will be in Detroit June 18-21 to build homes in Habitat for Humanity's Tri-Centennial Village, a 16-block neighborhood located on the city's west side. During the week-long Jimmy Carter Work Project, sponsors, volunteers and families will build 30 new homes for recipient families.

This is a landmark year for the statewide Habitat effort, as the Jimmy Carter Work Project has selected Michigan as the global location to benefit from their efforts as well. Dow-sponsored homes will be built in Detroit, Midland, Saginaw and Bay City as part of the initiative to build more than 230 affordable homes for recipient families.

"This is an excellent opportunity for the Dow team to come together to give back to the community," said George Hamilton, Dow Automotive President. "We are especially excited to be working with President Carter as part of Habitat's ongoing effort to provide affordable housing to families in need."

In a ceremony held in Lansing on April 27, Gov. Jennifer Granholm and Michigan Habitat for Humanity named Dow Chemical as Habitat's "2005 Sponsor of the Year" in recognition of Dow's 20+ years of commitment to the organization.

Dow has donated more than $5 million in STYROFOAM™ extruded polystyrene insulation, millions of dollars in Habitat program support, and more than 1,000 employee volunteers. Dow's STYROFOAM donations alone have insulated more than 10,000 Habitat homes in North America.
