One of Dow Automotive’s latest interior innovations will equip the recently launched new Audi TT.  The TT will be equipped with blow-molded seatbacks produced from PULSE* 2200BG PC/ABS which provide both safety and weight benefits.

Seatbacks, traditionally made from steel, need to meet specific legal and OEM requirements regarding load performance and passenger protection. Dow Automotive’s plastic seatbacks meet strict European legislations such as ECE 17 luggage retention, as well as other globally mandated safety requirements and OEM specific needs like durability. Our blow-moulded seatbacks not only meet all safety criteria but also enable the Audi TT to achieve a weight reduction of 1,2 kg.  In addition this technology offers greater design freedom and improved seating comfort along with reduced tooling times.

The seatback was developed, tested and approved by Dow Automotive in cooperation with the interior design team from AUDI AG. Dow Automotive’s comprehensive material know-how and experience in simulation analysis was the foundation of this successful development. In addition to the seatback solution, Dow Automotive supplies PC/ABS and ABS for other interior applications on the Audi TT including: door and pillar trim, middle console and lower parts of the instrument panel.
