Dow Automotive, a major technology and solutions provider to the global auto industry, announced today the Dow Automotive Strategic Call of the Race Award contingency program for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series. 
 
Begun at the 2007 season-opening Daytona 500, teams vie for a $5,800 per-race award to be given for making the best strategic call of the race. Following each race, NASCAR officials will determine the award winner based on the best strategic call that improved position or significantly impacted the finishing position.
 
Mark Martin, who finished second in last Sunday’s thrilling Daytona 500, was selected to be the first recipient of this award for his team’s quick thinking during the last pit stop that was responsible for propelling him from seventh to first before the final laps. He will be presented his check on Sunday, Feb. 25, just before the Auto Club 500 in Fontana, California (FOX, 3 p.m. EST).

The contingency program for NASCAR NEXTEL Cup teams is a natural follow-up to
Dow Automotive’s new three-year automotive licensing agreement with NASCAR. Dow Automotive will provide energy absorbing foam solutions beginning with the Car of Tomorrow program being initiated at 16 events in 2007. Every car will be using Dow Automotive’s patented IMPAXX™ energy absorbing foam at these races.
 
At the season's end, the team that has gathered the most Dow Automotive Strategic Call of the Race Awards will receive a $100,000 bonus.
